The Smart Sparks group of companies was formed around a few simple beliefs:

When Smart Sparks started in 2004 our aim was to provide a smarter way of helping clients with their electrical requirements. Our team has around 20 full time employees across all divisions:

Commercial

Working with the other companies in the group, Smart Sparks Commercial can deliver the complete range of products and services required from large clients. With a systematic and innovative approach the company can deliver increased efficiency and cost-effectiveness. This unremitting professionalism and expertise has seen the Commercial team work on some the region’s most high profile projects.

Residential

Smart Sparks provides high quality electrical services in homes throughout the Canterbury region. We have years of electrical and project management experience under our belt. We employ a carefully selected team, provide prompt and professional service and take pride in our work. Their passion is offering a service that exceeds expectations.

Servicing

In 2008, after four years as an integrated part of Smart Sparks Electrical, the Servicing department evolved into a full-scale company. With an increased demand and a burgeoning reputation for excellent results, Smart Sparks Servicing can now dedicate greater resources to meet the intricate needs of their growing client base. Headed by Tim Malone, the team prides itself on a responsive, intuitive and inventive approach to system maintenance.

Our quotes and estimates are free.

How do I pay my invoice?

We accept Internet Banking & Cheque.

Is there a minimum charge?

Yes, there is a 1-hour minimum charge.

Do you do insurance work/repairs?

We will undertake insurance work/repairs and are more than happy to provide an estimate for the work required.

Can you preform a pre-purchase electrical check?

We would be more than happy to give you an appraisal on the electrical wiring in your new investment.

Can I supply my own light fittings?

You are more than welcome to supply your own light fittings as long as you  can provide the SDOC documentation.

Can you test my emergency lighting?

We are IQP Certified. 

Can I trust your staff in my house/property?

All of our staff are strictly police vetted.

What is a ESC & COC and when do I receive one?

ESC's and COC's are the certified documentation of works completed, This will be received within 7 days of completion of the job.

Do you do appliance repairs?

We can repair ovens, plug tops and other selected appliances - Contact us to find out more.

What is thermal imaging?

Thermal imaging is an insurance requirement, it is also a way of completing building maintenance without shut-down. Thermal imaging uses infrared thermography,  allowing us to see these invisible thermal signatures of impending damage before the damage occurs. When current flows through an electric circuit, part of the electrical energy is converted into heat energy - however sometimes unwanted heat is generated that results in costly damage or shut downs.

How often should items be test & tagged?

Different items have different requirements when it comes to test & tagging: 

For the most common environments, we recommend the following frequencies:

  • 3 months - building, construction and demolition
  • 6 months - factories, warehouses and production
  • 12 months - an environment where the equipment/supply cord is prone to flexing or open to abuse
  • 5 years - office environment(s) where the equipment/supply cord is NOT prone to flexing or open abuse

What do I do if I have a complaint?

We aim to provide excellent service always, but if something does go wrong we want you to tell us about it. This will help us to improve the quality of service - Contact us via phone or email if you have any concerns.
